Landmarks
Competition 2010
At last years AGM, Centre 4 suggested that having not run this competition for a few years we do it again in 2010. As you are all aware their
Centre rep,
"Grum" passed away shortly after, so it is to his memory that we are dedicating
"Landmark 2010".
The competition is straightforward and open to all of you to take part in. The Centre
reps have suggested various landmarks for you to visit. For those of you going to the international rally in Holland or either of the other two euro rallies that are on the calendar this year,
Centre 2 have given you three Dutch landmarks to visit. As you'd expect from the Welsh, one of theirs is completely unpronounceable, has no postcode and consists of so many letters, mostly L's, W's and O's that I gave up counting them. It's not a name, it's a sentence that translates into:
"Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of Saint Tysilio near the red cave."
If you want to visit this it may be like searching for the Holy Grail.
The Yorkies have stuck to their TV theme which gives you some great rideouts around the Dales and if a copy of Clatter finds its way into your photograph when you visit any of the locations, you can submit it to their
"Where in the world is Clatter" competition.
There are ancient monuments, Castles, Caves, Industrial heritage, Ships, planes, even motorbikes! This is a list of rideouts with both fascinating and educational destinations at the end of them. Some of them have web links so that you can read about them before you visit.
To enter all you have to do is submit a photograph with yourself, bike and something in the background that proves you're there (If I spot Clatter in it, I'll forward it to the Yorkies).
Email them to me at
merchandise@vsoc.org.uk
by Friday 22nd October
There will be commemorative tee shirts for the three that visit the most
locations.
Regards,
Bob Barber

Boxhill, Rykas been a biker meeting place since the late fifties, I remember going when there was just a caravan serving tea and bacon butties.
If anyone would like to see the
"secret" stepping stones, details on request, there is also a huge vineyard almost opposite that does guided tours, with tastings, and decent lunches.

HMS Belfast HMS Belfast is the last of the British battleships, moored near Tower bridge so lots of other stuff to see at the same time.
This could easily be incorporated into a riverbank ride from the Thames Barrier through London to see all the riverside sights, I might even arrange it for my
